Ellen Peters served on the Connecticut Supreme Court from 1978 to 2000, including 12 years as Chief Justice. She was the first woman appointed to that court and the first female Chief Justice. A Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Connecticut School of Law, she taught at Yale Law School for 22 years, primarily in the areas of contracts and commercial law. She was elected to the Council in 1984.
