Angel A. Garganta is a Partner and Co-Chair of the Class Action Defense Group at Venable LLP. He clerked for Judge Marilyn Hall Patel of the Northern District of California, and was an associate and partner at McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen and its successor firm, Bingham McCutchen, and subsequently a partner at Arnold & Porter, until he joined Venable in 2014.
Mr. Garganta’s practice is primarily in advertising law and consumer class action defense, specializing in the food, beverage and supplement industries, for which he is nationally ranked by Chambers in the Food and Beverage Regulatory and Litigation category. Mr. Garganta’s prior practice also included a broad range of commercial litigation, including representing banks and other financial institutions in consumer cases and serving a term as President of the San Francisco Bank Attorneys’ Association.
Throughout his career, Mr. Garganta has also been actively engaged in legal education for the bench and bar. He is an active speaker, having given numerous presentations and courses for organizations such as the American Bar Association, State Bar of California, Grocery Manufacturers Association, Food Marketing Institute, and various CLE providers over the years, and has written for several publications. He has also served as Co-Chair of the Northern District of California’s Lawyer Representative Committee, which organizes that court’s yearly judicial conferences, and puts on a full roster of substantive panels on legal topics for the judges and bar of the court. Before serving as a Lawyer Representative, Mr. Garganta served for several years on the Board of the Northern District of California Federal Practice Program, which serves as the CLE arm of the court, presenting several panels and seminars yearly for the bar of the court.
Mr. Garganta has also served on the Northern District of California’s Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel, as well as on the Board of Directors of the Bar Association of San Francisco, on the Executive Committee of its Litigation Section, and on its Judiciary Committee.
