Chris Hoofnagle is Professor of Law in Residence at the University of California, School of Law. He is affiliated faculty with the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing, a Professor of Practice in the School of Information, and a faculty director of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology.
His courses at Berkeley have included torts, Python programming, computer crime law, internet law, privacy law, a seminar on the Federal Trade Commission, cybersecurity, and privacy/security forensics. He is the author of three books: Cybersecurity in Context (Wiley 2024, with Golden G. Richard III), The Quantum Age (2022, with Simson Garfinkel) and Federal Trade Commission Privacy Law and Policy (2016, both with Cambridge University Press).
Hoofnagle is of counsel to Gunderson Dettmer LLP and serves on boards for Constella Intelligence and Palantir Technologies.
