William Bay is a partner at Thompson Coburn LLP. Mr. Bay’s litigation practice includes more than 30 years of experience in the representation and trial of business disputes. He regularly represents many corporate clients on such matters regionally and nationally. He has also been recognized as a top litigator by The Best Lawyers in America®, which named him the 2013 St. Louis Lawyer of the Year in Litigation – Banking & Finance.
Mr. Bay’s clients vary from major financial institutions to manufacturers to for-profit colleges. He has litigated cases on behalf of companies facing high-risk litigation and helped businesses manage and respond to large portfolios of litigation in multiple jurisdictions.
He is the past Chair of the 60,000-member ABA Section of Litigation. The Section is the largest in the ABA and is dedicated to all aspects of litigation, trial practice and dispute resolution. For his leadership of the Section of Litigation and his service to a number of local, state and national bar organizations, Missouri Lawyers Media selected Mr. Bay as a 2013 Influential Lawyer. The award is part of the Missouri Lawyers Awards, which honor the top innovators and influencers in Missouri's legal community.
In his litigation practice, Mr. Bay has handled a wide variety of highly complex and document-intensive cases involving breach of contract, fraud, corporate governance, insurance coverage, lost profits, lender liability, and tortious interference.
Mr. Bay is active in a number of legal and community organizations throughout the region and country. He currently serves on the ABA Board of Governors, and has been elected to leadership posts in several local, state and national bar associations, including president of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, president of the St. Louis Bar Foundation and member of the Missouri Bar Board of Governors. He has been a member of the ABA's House of Delegates since 2003 representing St. Louis. He served as Chair of the ABA Standing Committee on Bar Activities and Services, which interfaces with national, state, local and special focus bars throughout the country and trains bar leaders. He also served on the board of FOCUS St. Louis, which seeks to train, promote and educate leaders on regional issues.
