Jonathan S. Mothner

Jonathan Mothner is the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Synchrony Financial.  Prior to February 2014, he served as General Counsel for GE Capital’s North American retail finance business since January 2009.  From December 2005 to July 2009, Mr. Mothner served as Chief Litigation Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of GE Capital’s global consumer finance business.  From June 2004 to December 2005, Mr. Mothner served as Chief Litigation Counsel of GE Commercial Finance. From May 2000 to June 2004, Mr. Mothner served as Litigation Counsel of GE’s global consumer finance business. Prior to joining GECC, Mr. Mothner served as an Assistant US Attorney in the Eastern District of New York.  Prior to joining the government, Mr. Mothner was an associate at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York and Tokyo.  Mr. Mothner received a B.A. in Economics from Hobart College and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.  He and his wife, Eve Konstan, HBO’s General Counsel, live in Greenwich, CT and have two children.
