The American Academy of Arts and Sciences Elects ALI Members
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences has announced its newly elected members, which includes ALI members José Enrique Alvarez of New York University School of Law, Nathan L. Hecht of the Texas Supreme Court, Gillian L. Lester of Columbia Law School, Angela Onwuachi-Willig of Boston University School of Law, and James J. Sandman of the Legal Services Corporation.

The 2021 election provides an opportunity to recognize extraordinary people who help solve the world’s most urgent challenges, create meaning through art, and contribute to the common good from every field, discipline, and profession.
“We are honoring the excellence of these individuals, celebrating what they have achieved so far, and imagining what they will continue to accomplish,” said David Oxtoby, President of the American Academy. “The past year has been replete with evidence of how things can get worse; this is an opportunity to illuminate the importance of art, ideas, knowledge, and leadership that can make a better world.”
Academy members are leaders in the arts and sciences, business, philanthropy, and public affairs. They are based across the United States and around the world. These elected members explore challenges facing society, identify solutions, and promote nonpartisan recommendations that advance the public good.
