“Complexity & Contradiction in American Law”

The fall 2023 edition of the Marquette Lawyer features the E. Harold Hallows Lecture, originally given by Gerard E. Lynch of U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit at Marquette University Law School on March 7, 2023.

Titled Complexity & Contradiction in American Law, the lecture draws on Lynch’s experiences as a judge, professor, and lawyer to provide commentary on legal decisions, jurisprudence, and American law.

Lynch was elected to ALI in 1998 and to ALI Council in 2009. He has served as a judge on the Second Circuit since 2009. He is also the Paul J. Kellner Professor of Law at Columbia Law School, teaching courses in criminal law and procedure, sentencing, and professional responsibility.
