Judicial Independence and the Federal Courts: A Historical Perspective
The National Constitution Center hosted three panel discussions which explore the evolution of judicial independence from the founding of the nation to today.
The panels are “Panel 1: Judicial Independence and the Early Federal Courts;” “Panel 2: Judicial Independence and the Federal Courts in the 20th Century;” and “Panel 3: Judicial Independence and the Federal Courts in the 21st Century.”
ALI panel participants included Professor Stephen B. Burbank of University of Pennsylvania Law School, Director of the Federal Judicial Center John S. Cooke, Professor Michael J. Gerhardt of UNC School of Law, President and CEO of the National Constitution Center Jeffrey Rosen, and Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit Chief Judge Diane P. Wood.
