Margaret Love on Recent Presidential Pardons
Margaret C. Love, who served as U.S. pardon attorney from 1990 to 1997 and now represents applicants for presidential pardon, wrote an article for The Washington Post in which she provides some much needed perspective on President Trump’s recent use of executive power to grant pardons to an array of citizens.
Ms. Love explains that though Trump’s pardons have raised alarms among critics, the President’s use of this particular power is actually far from unconventional. She suggests that while each of his recent grants are successful in their ability to shed light on certain flaws and shortcomings in the criminal justice system, the real problem lies in his lack of responsibility in selecting them.
