Mario Barnes and Carolyn Witherspoon Awarded 2023 ABF Fellow Awards
At the American Bar Association’s Midyear Meeting, the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation (ABF) honored Mario Barnes of UCI Law with the Outstanding Scholar Award and Carolyn B. Witherspoon of Cross, Gunter, Witherspoon & Galchus with the Distinguished Life Fellow Award.
The Outstanding Scholar Award is given to individuals who have engaged in outstanding scholarship in law or government. Barnes is codirector of the Center on Law, Equality, and Race at UCI Law. He teaches and specializes in criminal law, constitutional law, national security law, and race and the law.
The Distinguished Life Fellow Award is given to an ABF life fellow in recognition of sustained and significant professional achievement and public service throughout their lifetime. Witherspoon was the first female president of the Pulaski County & Arkansas Bar Association. She has served as an arbitrator for the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and the UFC.
