Garry W. Jenkins is the president of Bates College.  From 2016 to 2023, he was dean and William S. Pattee Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota Law School.  Prior to his deanship, he was on the faculty of The Ohio State university Moritz College of Law, where he held a variety of positions including associate dean for academic affairs, John C. Elam/Vorys Sater Professor of Law, and director of the Program on Law and Leadership, a leadership education and development initiative that he co-founded.

President Jenkins’s research and teaching interests are in law and philanthropy, corporate governance, and leadership studies. His scholarly articles have been published in leading law reviews and interdisciplinary journals, and his scholarship has been honored for excellence in three different subfields: nonprofit law, global justice, and corporate law. He also received an honorary degree from Albany Law School for his contibutions to legal scholarship and adminstration.
