Now Available: Chasing Justice: Florida Justice Association 1950-2000

Chasing Justice: Florida Justice Association 1950-2000 by Larry S. Stewart of Stewart Tilghman Fox Bianchi & Cain (retired) is now available. The book details the first 50 years of the Florida Justice Association, describing the organization’s development into the modern-day institution.

From the FJA press release:

It was announced today by Paul Jess, President of the Florida Justice Association (FJA) Research and Education Foundation, that the much-anticipated history of the Florida Justice Association entitled, Chasing Justice, is now on sale.

Meticulously researched and documented, Chasing Justice chronicles the first fifty years of the FJA, from 1950 to 2000, as it rose from a small education focused association to become one of the most powerful political organizations in the country. Beginning with the birth of plaintiff trial lawyers, the book details how initially the law was stacked in favor of defendant interests and how the association and its members took on the challenge to modernize Florida law to allow the “little fellas” a fair shot at holding wrongdoers responsible for the harm they caused.

Written in plain English by renowned trial lawyer, Larry S. Stewart, Chasing Justice chronicles a little-known part of Florida’s legal history. The book exposes the ugly truths of the tort reform battles that raged over the last half of the twentieth century and the lengths to which defense special interests were willing to go to close courthouse doors and prevent injured parties from obtaining full justice. As stated by Jess, “If you are a trial lawyer, or just someone who wants to know what makes trial lawyers tick, then this book is a must read.”

Among accolades already offered for the book, former Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Barbara Pariente heralded it as “captivating,” Linda Lipsen, Executive Director of the American Association of Justice, called it “a compelling page-turner” and Dean Laura Ann Rosenbury of the University of Florida Levin College of Law, said that “everyone interested in the evolution of tort law in Florida, and fights over judicial independence and so-called tort reform, should read this book.”

Chasing Justice can be purchased by contacting the FJA Research and Education Foundation by either email or phone at info@fjaref.org or (850) 688-0521. Its cost is $35.00.
